Company History and Focus
The company has been in business since 1986 as Joan Sherman Artist Management. It was bought in 2002 by Ixtlan Artists Group and has been in Pittsburgh since 2004. The Reading PA office is being set up in January 2012; so all positions are somewhat flexible and can be defined through conversation between artist representative and managing director.
The artists represented by the company are musicians and dancers from North America, South America, Europe, and Africa. All artists are world traditional musicians and dancers, such as Eastern European gypsy, Native American flute, Native American Hoop dancing and Eagle dancing, Peruvian Dance and Music, Irish song, African drumming, Italian/Mediterranean guitar, and American instrumental folk. Many of the artists are “message performers,” meaning they are booked by universities at social justice and world spiritual events, as well as workshops devoted to their ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Some artists have elementary, middle, and high school assembly programs and are booked for educational residencies and outreach programs.
Additional Position (available at a later date)
In the future, Ixtlan Artists Group will also be looking for an Assistant to the Director, a part-time bookkeeper, a part-time publicist, a social media marketing person, and a Baha’i Events Coordinator. Keep in touch with us through our website for future details about these positions. For now, we are seeking artist representatives.
