Recordings include his 1992 release Duo with Dean Magraw (named one of the Ten Best Albums of the Year 1991 by TowerPulse! Magazine), his brilliant 1989 release Blue Mesa; Buddies of Swing (featuring Jethro Burns, Johnny Gimble, Red Maddock, and Butch Thompson); Peter Ostroushko presents The Mando Boys (those four recordings available on Red House Records); Down the Streets of My Old Neighborhood and Slüz Düz (both available on Rounder Records). In 1995 Peter launched what became a five-year project. Over the course of a trilogy of albums, Ostroushko sought to “redefine himself as a composer conversant in all forms of acoustic music” while conveying the spirit of his heartland home. Preceded by 1995's Heart of the Heartland and 1997's Pilgrims on the Heart Road, 2000's Sacred Heart completed the Heartland Trilogy. Peter's more recent recordings include Meeting on Southern Soil with Norman Blake (2002), Coming Down from Red Lodge (2003), Minnesota: A History of the Land (2005), an original score for a four-episode public television docu-series, Heartland Holiday: Live at the Fitzgerald, a live recording of Peter's annual Holiday concert celebration (2006), and Postcards: Travels with a Great American Radio Show (2006), music from Peter's many tours with A Prairie Home Companion. Peter's latest release is: The Mando Boys Live! Holstein Lust, a recording that has been ten years in the making! For Mandolin lovers, the CD is a glimpse into a short lived group that set the mandolin world upside down with it's impeccable playing, incredible arrangements, and hilarious stage presence.
